Amazon review of the adult version "a very creative, one-of-a-kind book"
"Her compassionate, direct and easy-to-understand suggestions and exercises are an antidote to a wide variety of stresses and anxieties so many have faced. The exercises--for verbalizing and drawing--bring out one’s feelings, and creates space to reflect and move forward."
"It raises questions / concerns, and provides space for you to record your feelings via doodling, words, drawing, or whatever appeals to each individual person."
"It’s an interactive approach to confronting the reality of the changes and struggles we’ve all experienced during this pandemic. Whether you are a frontline healthcare worker or a cashier at the local grocery store, a stay at home parent or have had to work remotely, this book will speak to you."
"A useful guide for navigating the personal and public effects of COVID.... I highly recommend it! "
I don't know anyone who hasn't been emotionally affected by COVID-19. After almost 4 (!) years of variants, vaccines, masking, unmasking, maybe masking again- the trauma from the pandemic is everywhere- in the hospital where I work in infection prevention, in our schools and communities, the workplaces which may be an office, a bedroom, or a combination of the two- we are all suffering in some way. And because many of us have not taken the time to process what we've been through ( and continue to go through) this embedded trauma affects us even if we are not aware of it.
To deal with my own anxiety and depression, I started using writing and color to get it all out. The combination was more therapeutic than I thought it would be. Thinking that others might benefit, I decided to write and publish my first book.
Getting Past the Pandemic: Exercises for Healing the Emotional Trauma of COVID-19 is a simple yet powerful book. The 25 exercises take you through the stages of the pandemic, helping you identify the issues that are most on your mind. The process of using words and color is designed to free the creative nature we all possess and begin the healing journey.
My second book, Getting Past the Pandemic for Teens, includes many of the original exercises and over a dozen new ones specifically aimed at the issues facing young people- chaotic educational systems, lost rites of passage, family tensions, and interrupted interpersonal growth. Find them both on Amazon.

The same exercise taken further. I find it therapeutic to go back over the page, highlighting some words, underlining others, adding more notes and color, etc. It helps me further process my feelings. I may repeat this exercise several times this way, uncovering new thoughts or celebrating my progress.
